Chester May Festival: Day 2 Tips | 10th May 2018
Racing tipster Graeme Johnston runs the rule over the best bets from Day 2 of Chester’s May Festival on Thursday.

A big field by Chester standards over the minimum distance and this looks wide open. As with all races here, the draw will prove vital and don’t be surprised if some of those drawn out widest of all end up non-runners come race time.
Reflektor is no stranger to Chester having ran here on 30% of his career starts and he tends to run well too. A win and three places shows he handles the unique Chester test and that’s hugely important, especially in Sprint races.
He’s fit from the all-weather and won a couple of decent races earlier in the year. Drawn in five, he’s in a prime location to claim a good position and he strikes me as a great each way-bet here.

The Dee Stakes is a listed race but it’s treated as a Derby trial and Aidan O’Brien sent a couple of decent sorts over for the race. However, I have a feeling they may end up fighting it out for second place here.
My Lord And Master from the William Haggis yard has had three starts and last time he was second in the Derby trial at Epsom. That was a decent little race with the third that day second in the Huxley stakes yesterday, giving it a solid look.
He was doing his best work late on there and he will know a lot more this afternoon. He was an emphatic winner of his maiden last November and given the huge amount of scope for improvement he possesses I think he is the one to beat here.

The Ormonde Stakes is a very interesting race with some high class older horses lining up. Despite the small field I think there is likely to be a decent pace on here and if anywhere near fit the favourite should be hard to beat.
Idaho is something of a disappointment so far to me. Having said that he’s won over £1 million in prize money and won some big races, but he remains open to improvement. He stumbled and fell in the St Ledger when going well and he’s only won once in 10 starts since.
However, he races almost exclusively at Grade 1 level and this is much easier. I expect him to get his head in front here and gain a much needed confidence booster before stepping back in to the top level.
1:50 Chester – Reflektor each-way
2:25 Chester – My Lord And Master to win
3:35 Chester – Idaho to win
