A rough day for me on Thursday as my horses struggled. Let’s hope for more success on Friday.

Rain, rain, go away

I’m really looking forward to getting on Minella Rocca in Saturday’s Grand National but I’m very worried about the weather. I need the rain to stay away. He gave me a cracking ride in the Gold Cup last year but that was on much better ground than this.

I have four rides at Aintree on Friday.

2:20 – Ornua

Not a horse I know much about to be honest but what gives me confidence is that trainer Henry De Bromhead is in good form at the moment. I think he’s capable of getting in the places on what he’s achieved so far. He’ll certainly be fresh on the day.

2:50 – Miss Parfois

She’s had a wonderful season and I’m delighted to have been associated with her. If the rain keeps coming she’ll have a big shout here although I have two concerns. First, trainer Anthony Honeyball has been a bit quiet of late and this race is coming at the end of a long season for the mare. Her brilliant run at Cheltenham may have taken it’s toll.

4:40 – Chef Des Obeaux

I’m still scratching my head after his run at Cheltenham to be honest. He folded in the Albert Bartlett and there’s no obvious reason why. He would have loved the ground that day and he was capable of staying the trip. It was disappointing so I’m hoping for a better show here.

5:15 – Severano

Ran a cracking debut at Kempton in February but this is a hugely competitive race. I couldn’t win it on Buevuer D’Air, I couldn’t win it on If The Cap Fits and Black Op finished down in 9th last year so I’m taking nothing for granted. This will be a learning experience.
