I’m gutted not to be riding in the Grand National this year but sadly that’s the way it goes. The ground is simply too soft for my ride Minella Rocco to take his chance and I have to sit it out. It’s the first time since 2011 I don’t have a ride in the race.
I still have two other rides on Saturday…
He was fantastic on New Years Day when he won at Cheltenham but he followed that up with a disappointing run at the same track four weeks later. Not entirely sure what to expect here but I fear he may find a big field handicap not to his liking.
He ran a cracker for me at the Festival last month when second to Samcro in the Ballymore but I just hope it hasn’t left it’s mark. I like this horse a lot and he looks a chaser in the making so roll on next season.
As you know, I’m not riding in this race but if I had to ride any horse it would be Anibale Fly. Never underestimate Gold Cup form, his third last month at Cheltenham was very impressive. We’ve seen in the past with the likes of Hedgehunter and Rough Quest that horses run well in the Gold Cup can post big efforts here and it wouldn’t surprise if Anibale Fly followed up. He’ll relish the ground, is well in at the weights and has the required touch of class.
