Cheltenham hosts it’s final meeting before the Festival this weekend and I’m looking forward to hitting Prestbury Park. I’ll tell you about my rides in a bit, first though last week.
La Bague brilliance
It was another good Saturday for me as La Bague Au Roi and Acting Lass won at Ascot and it’s been a strong start to 2018. La Bague Au Roi was a great thrill to sit on and she was very impressive when winning the Grade 2 Mares Hurdle. With regard to his Cheltenham target, I suppose the Mares Hurdle will be the weaker race but even then you’re likely to be bumping into Gordon Elliot’s runners. The Stayers will be packed with classy horses so wherever Warren Greatrex takes her it’s going to be a tough assignment.
Acting Lass heading back to Ascot
Acting Lass is doing the right things and I think Harry is keen on the Reynoldstown for him at Ascot next month. The longer trip will suit him there.
The news of Richard Wollocott’s death earlier in the week was horrendous. He was a young man with a big future ahead of him and with so much to look to forward to especially with Beer Goggles and Lalor. It really was awful news.
All roads lead to Cheltenham for me on Saturday and I’m really looking forward to my book of rides.
I only ride here and there for Nigel Twiston Davies and I’m excited about getting on Ballyandy on Saturday. He’s a very decent horse and had an excellent time over hurdles where he won the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury. It won’t be easy on Saturday but we’re hoping for a big run.
Yeah his run in the Ladbrokes Trophy last month was disappointing but the standing start didn’t work out for him that day and he never got into a rhythm. This smaller field shout suit him much better and he’ll have his ground too. Bristol De Mai should win but American is capable of showing what he’s made of.
I must be honest and say he surprised us all on New Years Day when he won at Cheltenham, I’m just hoping he continues to progress here on Saturday. He’s getting thrown in at the deep end but he’ll love the ground and in many ways he’s my best chance of a winner on Saturday.
