Silvestre De Sousa 188BET Blog – Saturday 12th August
I was really pleased to get to 100 winners for the season at Brighton on Wednesday. We’ve worked hard for that and everything has been going really well. I’d just like to thank everyone who has supported me – my agent and all the trainers and owners I’ve ridden for.
As I’ve said before, I’m not taking anything for granted. It’s a long season and you have to keep firing in the winners. Obviously, I’d love to be champion jockey again. Onwards and upwards.
I’m at Newmarket on Saturday and then heading down to Lingfield for one ride in the evening. I’m not at the Shergar Cup this year.
It was a great thrill to be part of the winning Rest of the World team 12 months ago. It’s a great event and always fun for the racegoers. You need plenty of luck with the rides you get on the day.
Here are my thoughts on my Saturday rides…
Simple Thought – Newmarket 14:00
This looks like a really hot maiden with runners from a lot of big stables. It was won by Wuheida last year so that shows you how good the quality of these Newmarket maidens can be.
I’m on Simple Thought for Simon Crisford and it has to be a bonus that the stable is in such good form. They’ve been doing really well with their two-year-olds. This is Simple Thought’s first run so we’ll know more afterwards. It will be an interesting race to watch.
Eddystone Rock – Newmarket 15:05
I haven’t sat on him before but it’s a nice ride to pick up. He ran really well at York two starts back when he was sixth in the John Smith’s Cup.
He had a bit of an interrupted passage that day and then the same happened at Goodwood last week. He’ll need a bit of luck, but he goes there with a chance in an open race.
Dance Diva – Newmarket 15:40
The Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes is the big race of the day and I’m really pleased to be riding Dance Diva for Richard Fahey.
She’s been in great form this season and won a Listed race here over six furlongs at the start of last month. She was then a good second to the impressive Nyaleti in the Princess Margaret at Ascot a couple of weeks ago.
I don’t think the step up to seven furlongs will be a problem for her and she has good form with cut in the ground. Her form is strong and she should be there or thereabouts.
Plutonian – Newmarket 16:50
This is another who I ride for the first time. He won really impressively at Windsor last time – it’s never easy to win by 10 lengths! Obviously this is a big step up in class for him on his first start in a handicap and we’ll have to see how he copes. The ground is also going to be softer than he’s run on before. It looks another small but competitive race.
Addicted To You – Newmarket 17:20
Mark Johnston’s horses are in great form so hopefully this one can run well. He dominated his rivals at Catterick two starts back and then lost his action at Ayr last time so you can put a line through that.
He’s taking on some more experienced stayers here, but if he can repeat his Catterick display he should have a decent chance.
Glenamoy Lad – Lingfield 19:40
I’m heading down to Lingfield on Saturday evening for one ride – let’s hope it’s a winning one. Glenamoy Lad won at Newmarket last week on just his second start for Michael Wigham so he’s turned out quickly here. Although he’s higher in the weights, he looked good last time and hopefully he can win again.
