Silvestre de Sousa Blog: Saturday 8th September 2018

Silvestre de Sousa – 188BET Blog – Saturday 8th September 2018

With my sponsors 188BET backing the card at Kempton on Saturday, there was no way I was going to ride anywhere else 😊! There’s some quality action this weekend at Haydock and Ascot too and sadly I cannot be at three places at once. The reason I have chosen to ride at Kempton is not just because of my sponsors, and the chance to try and ride the winner of the ‘Read Silvestre de Sousa at 188BET Handicap’, but to partner the progressive Honey Man for Simon Crisford in the London Mile Final. More about his chances and my other four rides below…

2.05pm Kempton (188BET September Stakes)

Nothing for me in the opening contest which sees the return of last year’s wonder filly Enable who hasn’t run since winning the Arc. She is bound to need this run after such a long absence, but it would be a big shock if she doesn’t make a winning return. The conditions of the race means that she gets 8lbs from Crystal Ocean which should prove decisive and rule out the fitness advantage. I’d be very surprised if she doesn’t run out a comfortable winner.

Indian Sounds – 2.40pm Kempton (188BET Mobile Bet10 Get20 Nursery Handicap)

My first ride of the day is Indian Sounds for Mark Johnston who carries top weight in the nursery. I finished in mid-division on him last time in a good race at York and he is in much calmer waters here. If he can reproduce his Newbury run from the time before, I reckon he can go pretty close, even with such a big weight, and he’s got a nice draw in stall one. There are plenty of dangers lurking beneath us including Hieronymus and Deira Surprise.

Honey Man – 3.15pm Kempton (188BET Extra Place Races ‘London Mile’ Handicap)

As I briefly touched on earlier, my main reason for heading to Kempton is to ride Honey Man for Simon Crisford in the feature handicap. I’ve been aboard for both of his victories and he really impressed me last time over course and distance when nothing went right. He still managed to get the job done and was better than the margin of victory suggests. However, it won’t be plain sailing confirming the form with Hakeem who re-opposes on much better terms. I still wouldn’t swap my fella for anything else though. One that could go well at a big price is Ed Dunlop’s Mudallel who might still be ahead of the handicapper.

I Am A Dreamer – 3.50pm Kempton (Play Blackjack At 188BET Casino Nursery)

Another ride for Mark Johnston in the mile nursery where I partner I Am A Dreamer who takes a big step up in trip. He has run well on the all-weather in the past and returns to an artificial surface having disappointed a bit lately. We will have to see whether the extra two furlongs brings out the necessary improvement, but his trainer is a master of his trade and I back his judgement.

Art Of Swing – 5.00pm Kempton (Read Silvestre de Sousa at 188BET Handicap)

I couldn’t ride the winner of the race in my name last weekend, so hopefully I can make amends this time aboard Art Of Swing who I ride for the first time. He gets in here off a nice weight and seems to be improving for the switch to Lee Carter’s yard. He won nicely at Chelmsford last time and is only 4lbs higher here.

Galloway Hills – 5.35pm Kempton (Best Odds Guaranteed At 188BET Handicap)

Things didn’t go according to plan the last time I rode Galloway Hills when he was a disappointing favourite at Epsom back in June. This is his first run back since then and he has been gelded in the meantime. Hopefully that will help him settle and if it does, he will be a leading player if returning to the form of his two good runs at Newmarket in the spring.

The big race of the day is the Sprint Cup at Haydock…

4.15pm Haydock (Sprint Cup)

It’s not very original but I reckon that Harry Angel will be extremely hard to beat after his layoff. He’s a class act and nothing went to plan at Royal Ascot last time where he picked up an injury. If he is to get beaten, I think that Sir Dancealot will be the one most likely to do it. He’s improving with every race and will test Harry Angel all the way.
