World Cup 2018 | Croatia v Nigeria Tips | 16th June 2018
GROUP D of the 2018 World Cup continues on Saturday night as Croatia take on Nigeria in Kaliningrad. Adam Goodwin shares his thoughts on the best betting angle.
On paper, you could claim that Croatia’s starting XI is amongst the best in the tournament. Mario Mandzukic, Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric are just a few names that will line-up against Nigeria on Saturday evening, hoping to get their World Cup off to a good start.
Nigeria also have some illustrious names amongst their squad – former and current Chelsea players John Obi-Mikel and Victor Moses included. Their friendly against England almost a fortnight ago showed the unpredictably of the Super Eagles, their second-half was a surprising improvement after a dreadful first-half.
Nigeria’s warm-up games for the World Cup haven’t been ideal. Along with their 2-1 loss at Wembley, they drew 1-1 Congo DR and lost 1-0 to Czech Republic – both of whom haven’t qualified for this tournament.
Croatia, on the other hand, beat Mexico and Senegal and look in good nick to start off their World Cup campaign with a win. In qualifying, ten of their 12 matches featured one or two goals and they only scored over 1.5 goals in 4/12 (33%) games. Croatia are set to start Nikola Kalinic up-front and he scored just six goals for AC Milan last season. With that in mind, the 1-0 correct score line looks appealing.
