World Cup 2018 | Egypt v Uruguay Tips | 15th June 2018
THE World Cup continues on Friday with more action from Group A as Uruguay face Egypt. Our man Ross Casey offers his betting preview and tips.
Egypt v Uruguay | Friday 15th June 2018, 13:00 | BBC
Uruguay are quite rightly favourites to win here with a price of 8/13. They have lost just one of their last nine matches – although there will be some concern about their decision to only play one warm-up game, which was an easy 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan on home soil.
Egypt look a value play at 6/1, but their over-reliance on Mo Salah – who of course has his injury worries – is shown by the fact they are winless in the four games they have played without him and have netted just one goal in those fixtures.
Let’s take a look at my betting tips…
I think backing Uruguay will be many punters go-to here, but I like to get a little more bang for my buck, so I will be backing them to be winning at both half-time and full-time with odds of 6/4. That’s a far better price than the 8/13 on them just to win this fixture.
Of their nine wins in qualification, seven came with them leading at half-time. They have also been leading after 45 minutes in two of their last three matches before going on to win.
Egypt have conceded in the first-half in three of their last four matches too, so there is some promise there that this Uruguay team can breach this Egyptian defence early and go on to win the game – especially with Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez as their centre-half pairing.
Edinson Cavani to score
Edinson Cavani has netted in four of his last six matches for Uruguay and is the focal point of their attack. He will be a danger from set-pieces with his physicality, but also with his finishing from through balls and crosses in open-play.
The Uruguayan scored 40 goals in total this season across 50 appearances and will get at least one great chance to net in this one in my opinion.
Luis Suarez is on penalty duty and is the same price, but I am more taken with Cavani here. Back the PSG marksman to score with a price of even-money.
