England - Kane

World Cup 2018 | England v Belgium Tips | 14th July 2018

Neither side will want to be on the field of play when Belgium and England face off in the third place play-off. It really is a match full of despair and lost hope! Ross Casey shares his thoughts on the best betting angle.

Belgium are slight favourites to triumph in the third-fourth place play-off, perhaps owing to the fact that they already beat England earlier in the tournament during the group stages – albeit under strange circumstances as that was basically a reserve fixture!

Both Roberto Martinez and Gareth Southgate chose to field significantly weakened sides for the game, with no fewer than 17 changes between them.

Both sides of course lost their World Cup semi-finals with Belgium losing to France in a very close and tense semi-final, whilst England lost late on in extra-time to a Croatia side that improved as the game went on.

Belgium to win

This selection has already come in once at the World Cup and head-to-head whether this is another reserve game or a full strength affair, I fancy The Red Devils to come out on top here because in my opinion they have the stronger squad. England are yet to defeat a single side of note in the tournament and Belgium look a good price here at 6/5 to pick up the bronze medal.

There is an interesting angle to this game however in terms of the golden boot with Harry Kane on six and Romelu Lukaku on four. Will both start? Or will Kane be rested after looking less than 100% for a while now leaving Lukaku with the possibility of catching the Tottenham man!
