World Cup 2018 | England v Colombia Tips | 3rd July 2018
The last 16 concludes on Thursday night as England face Colombia in a mouth-watering tie at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow. Ross Casey shares his thoughts on the best betting angle.
England will be aiming to win just their third knockout stage match in 11 attempts when they take on Colombia in the World Cup last 16, so any ideas of a walkover are out of the window – especially as Colombia are in confident spirits and boasting a dangerous attack that have scored in each of their three matches thus far.
The Three Lions are however favourites to win this last 16 match, with odds of 11/10 currently available. You cannot read too much into their 1-0 loss to Belgium last time out as essentially that was a meeting of two reserve sides, but their winning run was ended and some were questioning if that will their effect their mentality.
Colombia had the opposite, where they started their World Cup campaign with a defeat before turning things around and gaining four points which was enough to knock out both Senegal and Poland.
Harry Kane to score
For this match, my recommended bet would be Harry Kane to score. The Tottenham man has scored five goals in two goals so far in Russia before being rested for the match against Belgium. With VAR in operation, there have been many penalties awarded at this tournament and after his confident penalty kicks against Panama, that is a possible way for him to net again here as well as open play.
He will be playing against his Spurs teammate Davinson Sanchez and should know his weaknesses, which is a plus and he will need to as Colombia have kept five clean sheets in their last seven games!
He has the class and England of course use him as their focal point, so at this point he seems to take most of the chances he gets. I will be backing him to score against Colombia at a best price of 6/5.
