World Cup 2018 | England v Panama Tips | 24th June 2018
GROUP G of the 2018 World Cup continues on Sunday as England return to against Panama in Nizhny Novgorod. Mark O’Haire shares his thoughts on the best betting angle.
Harry Kane’s stoppage-time strike gave England a deserved 2-1 triumph over Tunisia in their opening Group F contest last Monday. The Three Lions dominated the opening 45 minutes and really should have been home and hosed by the interval, but for some poor finishing.
Gareth Southgate’s side laboured in the second-half, often struggling for inspiration and invention against the North Africans’ deep-lying defence. The majority of clear-cut opportunities tended to arrive via set-piece situations but few could doubt that England impressed across the full 90 minutes.
Debutants Panama were brushed aside 3-0 by Belgium in their curtain-raiser from Sochi. The Central Americans dogged it out for long periods without coming under any major pressure but wilted in the second period and were unable to sustain their performance levels as fatigue set-in.
England can cover the handicap
Belgium were slow, laboured and ponderous against Panama and still managed to seal a three-goal success. Los Canaleros are undoubtedly one of the weakest nations at this summer’s tournament, and while their 5-4-1 formation can take time to breakdown, England should be good enough to play through them.
The Asian Handicap line has been set at -1.75 and backing the Three Lions to cover the spread appeals at 2.07. A victory by exactly two goals will return us a half-stakes profit with a three-goal triumph or more will pay-us out a full-stakes win – the only way in which we’ll lose our money is if England win by just one goal, or don’t triumph at all.
