World Cup 2018 | France v Australia Tips | 16th June 2018
GROUP D of the 2018 World Cup kicks-off on Saturday as France take on Australia in Kazan. Ben Levene shares his thoughts on the best betting angle.
Didier Deschamps’ France side are looking to better their runners-up fate at Euro 2016 and lift the World Cup. They certainly aren’t lacking in talent as Les Bleus kick-off against Australia this Saturday.
Bert van Marwijk took over from Ange Postecoglou following an underwhelming qualification campaign. Performances in recent friendlies have provoked some optimism – the Aussies go into Saturday on the back of consecutive wins.
Australia have a set-piece threat through Aaron Mooy, while Tom Rogic has shown his ability on occasions for Celtic. The strong-running winger Matthew Leckie could be an outlet for the Socceroos on the counter.
The French may be without Kylian Mbappe but Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is a more than able replacement. With Antoine Griezman and Olivier Giroud making up a front-three, the French could trouble an undercooked Aussie defence, who conceded more goals than any other Asian qualifier.
France have found the net in 13 of their last 14 matches and have scored two or more in seven of their last eight. A France win and Over 2.5 Goals is around 4/5, but we can get France double chance and the overs at 3/4.
It makes sense to take the safer option given the little difference in the prices.
