Croatia all but confirmed their place as winners of Group D after their 3-0 demolition of Argentina. Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric were just two players who stood out for the Croats and they’ll fancy themselves against anyone in this tournament.
Has the Iceland fairytale come to an end? They were beaten by Nigeria last Friday and seemed to lack the quality that many people expected them to before into the World Cup. Heimir Hallgrímsson knows his side need to beat Croatia to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
Croatia to win
Croatia are expected to rest players after already securing their place in the knockout stages, but don’t assume this will weaken The Blazers. Some of the fringe players that come into the starting XI will be eager to throw their name in the hat for a starting place in the Round of 16.
With Iceland needing a win, they’ll be actively looking to go in-front, which could leave them vulnerable to the counter-attack. We saw Croatia punish Argentina when they were too offensive and, if Iceland aren’t careful, we could see a similar outcome.
This Croatia side will want to head into the knockout stages with three wins out of three and – as we saw when his side were 3-0 up against Argentina – Zlatko Dalic will expect no slacking from his side. This makes the 6/5 available on Croatia to beat Iceland a cracking slice of value.
