World Cup 2018 | Russia v Saudi Arabia Tips | 14th June 2018

THE World Cup kicks-off on Thursday with host nation Russia facing Saudi Arabia in Group A. Our man Ross Casey offers his betting preview and tips.

Russia v Saudi Arabia | Thursday 14th June 2018, 16:00 | ITV

This current Russia side has been labelled by some as their weakest team in history and they will be looking to avoid becoming the first host nation to lose the opening match of a World Cup.

The bookies are still favouring them – possibly because 63% of the 19 host nations have saved their best tournament for home soil.

Let’s take a look at my betting tips…

Saudi Arabia Double Chance

Over the past month Saudi Arabia have played five matches, winning two and losing three. Of those defeats, only the 3-0 loss to Peru was a particularly damaging one, although 50% possession would tell you that they were in the game.

Losing 2-1 to both Germany and Italy over 90 minutes is nothing to worry about too much in the grand scheme of things and against lesser opposition such as Russia, I think that Saudi Arabia can take something from the opening game of the 2018 World Cup.

They beat Algeria and Greece last month and with Russia picking up just six wins in their last 27 matches, even with home advantage, I will take them on and back Saudi Arabia to either win the game or get a draw with best World Cup odds of 15/8.

Both Teams To Score

There is an interesting stat in opening World Cup matches that five of the last seven have seen both teams score and when it comes to these two sides, I can see that trend continuing.

Russia have scored in four of their last five matches, including putting three past Spain and Saudi Arabia have also scored in four of their last five fixtures, including netting against both Italy and Spain.

Back Both Teams To Score with a best price of 8/5.
